Magic Items

Narwhale Wand

The Narwhale wand is a rare artifact among the frost giants and it is usually found only in the hands of a mighty clan chief, shaman, or herald of the flame. The twisting horn shaft of the wand is as long as 6 ft., making this a full staff in the hands of a human-sized creature. The wand always glints and sparkles as if constantly covered in a thin layer of frost. It is also quite cold to the touch, but only enough to be uncomfortable to those not immune to cold.

Spells: drift 2/day (no charges used); snowblind 2/day (no charges used); freeze bolt (as lightning bolt except cold damage)

Spear of Thurgrim

This +2 weapon is used as a standard, one-handed spear in the hands of a frost giant. To human-sized creatures, this weapon counts as a lance, being that it is nearly 12 ft. long. The spear is a long metallic pole that is icy to the touch, and it has a jagged head that looks like a massive ice sickle with a butt that has a blunt hammer head on it.

Special Abilities: If struck by the tip, the target must make a DC 20 Reflex save or be slowed for 1d4 rounds. If the hammer strikes the ground and the ground is covered with ice, everyone in a 20-ft. radius except the wielder has to roll a DC 20 Reflex save or fall to the ground. It takes one full action to get up.The wielder may use this ability up to two times per day.

Herald of the Fire Bracers

These +3 AC, +10 fire resistance bracers, usually made out of leather and dragon scale, have very intricate detailwork, and some actually have the previous owners’ names etched on them.

Axe of the Glaciers

This two-handed axe is a two-handed weapon for a standard humanoid but requires a minimum of 18 Strength to wield it. A +2 frost and thundering weapon, the axe of the glaciers looks like a standard large metal two-handed axe until the activation word is said. The word is on the shaft of the weapon: Thunderfrost. Once the word is spoken, an icy mist surrounds the axe and the axe head has lightning arcs running across its surface, acting as a light spell but causing no harm. This effect lasts for 10 minutes and can be used an unlimited number of times.

  1. Morgan Boehringer

I both love and am confused about the fact that the Narwhal wand is a wand…for a giant…but a staff… for a medium creature. Same with the Spear of Thurgrim. Great concept. Nice work on the bracers and axe, and BONUS: we get a snow giant too! This certainly packs a pack of pack ice!!! Well done lads…

  2. I really like your series Brian/Hal/Doug! Frost giants have been favorite monsters of mine since G2. I really like the items here.
    Good job!
